Jordan’s embassy in Washington has issued a warning to Jordanians residing in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and other affected areas along the US West Coast, urging them to exercise caution and follow official safety advisories.

The alert comes after tsunami waves struck Hawaii, triggered by a powerful 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. Evacuation orders have been issued in several Pacific countries, including most of Japan’s eastern coastline.

Russian state TV aired footage Wednesday of tsunami waves hitting Severo-Kurilsk, sweeping buildings and debris into the sea. Officials reported parts of a fish meat plant and docked vessels were washed away.

Russian authorities have since lifted the tsunami warning for Kamchatka, though the shallow quake caused damage to several buildings and waves as high as 5 metres.
