– Israel’s public broadcaster, citing military investigations, reported that 16 soldiers have taken their own lives since the start of 2025 due to combat-related stress linked to the war in Gaza.
According to the army’s findings published Sunday morning, the suicides were attributed to traumatic scenes, the loss of comrades, and the inability to cope with the aftermath of war.
A senior military official told the broadcaster that most cases stem from the complex reality following the conflict, adding, “War has consequences, and these are difficult challenges—there are many such cases.”
Of the 16 suicides this year, 7 involved reservists who took their lives last month.
In 2024, 21 soldiers died by suicide, including 12 reservists; in 2023, 17; in 2022, 14; and in 2021, 11.
The broadcaster said the army is alarmed by what it called a “troubling reality” of rising suicide rates over the past two years.
