Amman – In an exclusive interview with Rum News Agency, Jordanian singer Issa Al-Saqqar spoke candidly about the realities of the local music scene, stressing that the audience—not the industry—determines a singer’s success. He pointed to the city of Ramtha as an example, saying that being considered the successor to the late Meteb is both an honor and a source of pride.
Al-Saqqar revealed that he transported his fans by buses to the Southern Theater at Jerash Festival, emphasizing that his loyal audience has been the foundation of his success. “Continuity in this field requires patience and resilience—the industry does not forgive,” he said, adding that ingratitude is unacceptable and that balance in work is essential.
The singer expressed appreciation for the mutual support between artists and the musicians’ syndicate, noting that music is “a gift from God” and that he values both private concerts and collaborations with poets from abroad while still holding Jordanian lyricists close to his heart.
He also discussed his documentation of songs for writers who were not their original lyricists, which sparked some criticism, and reaffirmed the wide resonance of Jordanian music across the Arab world. Al-Saqqar described the atmosphere at Jerash’s Southern Theater as unmatched and acknowledged the festival’s significant role in supporting Jordanian and Arab artists.
Expressing frustration with certain aspects of media coverage, he highlighted the importance of reviving the careers of Jordanian talents such as Amal Shibli. Regarding fellow artist Mohammed Al-Nabulsi, he said, “He chose his own path, and we wish him success.”
Al-Saqqar concluded with a heartfelt message to his fans: “You are the secret, and you are the reason I endure.”
