South Korean authorities detain former first lady Kim Keon Hee after a court issues arrest warrant on charges of illicit gains, bribery, stock manipulation and meddling in candidate selection.
Kim — who denies allegations — becomes first former first lady in country to be arrested, joining her husband, ousted ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol, jailed pending trial after being removed in April over a failed bid to impose martial law last December.
Charges carry potential prison terms and relate to business figures, religious leaders and a political broker.
Special prosecution team says arrest sought over risk of evidence tampering and interference in probe.
Lead prosecutor Min Jeong Ki, appointed in June by new liberal president Lee Jae Myung, questioned Kim for 7 hours last Wednesday before deciding to seek detention.
