Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Sunday the country will stand firm against the United States, which he accused of seeking to “subjugate” Tehran through negotiations.

“Those who pressure us for direct talks with the United States only see appearances in my view… the issue is unsolvable,” Khamenei said, according to state media.

Iran’s news agency reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a joint phone call Friday with his French, British and German counterparts to discuss nuclear talks and sanctions.

The three European powers have threatened to trigger the UN snapback sanctions mechanism if Iran refuses to return to negotiations.
