Unemployment in Jordan Falls by 0.1% to 21.3% in Second Quarter

The Department of Statistics released its quarterly report on employment and unemployment in Jordan for the second quarter of 2025. The report indicated that the unemployment rate among males reached 18.1% during this period, marking a decline of 0.8 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2024.

Overall, the national unemployment rate stood at 21.3% in Q2 2025, a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage points from 21.4% in Q2 2024. Over the longer term, unemployment has dropped by 1.3 percentage points over the past three years, compared to the same quarter in 2022.

The report also highlighted gender disparities in unemployment. Female unemployment reached 32.8% in Q2 2025, rising by 1.8 percentage points compared to Q2 2024. In comparison with Q1 2025, male unemployment fell by 0.5 percentage points, while female unemployment rose by 1.6 percentage points.

Education levels among the unemployed were also noted. Around 60.5% of all unemployed individuals held a secondary school certificate or higher, while 39.4% had qualifications below secondary level. At the governorate level, Ma’an recorded the highest unemployment rate at 33.9%, while Aqaba reported the lowest at 15.6%.
