In a step marking a milestone in Jordan’s digital transformation, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship officially announced on Monday the launch of the electronic passport issuance service through the government’s “Sanad” application.

According to ministry spokesperson Shorouq Hilal, the service represents a cornerstone in the government’s strategy to digitise services and simplify procedures for citizens, in line with Royal directives.

Hilal explained that the new e-passport, accredited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), contains an encrypted electronic chip storing all biometric data of its holder. She added that this advanced technology significantly boosts security, making the passport immune to forgery or tampering, while facilitating travel procedures and strengthening identity verification at airports worldwide.

The launch crowns the government’s continuous efforts to automate its services, with digitalisation now covering nearly 70% of government transactions. Comprehensive e-service centres, established under the direct guidance of King Abdullah II, play a vital role in achieving these objectives.
