Health Minister Ibrahim Al-Bdoor confirmed the ministry’s commitment to providing mental health services that match patients’ needs, stressing that psychiatric care is a national priority equal in importance to other health system pillars.

The statement followed Al-Bdoor’s surprise visit Tuesday to the National Mental Health Centre, where he toured all departments, reviewed diagnostic and treatment clinics, and inspected the judicial section for patients referred through the courts.

He announced a “full review” of psychiatric and mental health services to enhance technical and medical capacities as part of a comprehensive strategy that considers therapeutic, legal, and human rights aspects for patients.

During the visit, Al-Bdoor met with patients to hear their feedback and consulted medical and administrative staff about key challenges in mental health service delivery.

The minister emphasized strengthening infrastructure in the judicial section to ensure a safe, dignified, and specialised environment for patients, while improving coordination mechanisms with judicial authorities to facilitate referrals and follow-ups.
