Refugee numbers in Jordan fall to 506,000

UNHCR report shows registered refugees in Jordan dropped to about 506,225 by end of August 2025, down from a peak of 675,168 in 2013.

Syrians remain majority at 462,282 (91.3%), followed by Iraqis 29,235 (5.8%), Yemenis 9,392 (1.9%) and Sudanese 4,476 (0.9%), with smaller groups from other nationalities including Somalis.

Most refugees live in urban areas (412,667 or 81.5%), while 93,558 (18.5%) reside in camps: Zaatari 36,593, Azraq 56,932 and Hadiqa 163.

By governorate, Amman hosts 181,658, followed by Irbid 84,814, Mafraq 61,839 and Zarqa 31,961, with the rest spread across other provinces.

The decline continued from 15,801 fewer refugees in 2023, 14,973 in 2024 and 7,075 in 2025.
