In an interview with Amman TV’s ‘Saḥ Ṣiḥ’ programme, Dr Maher Hourani, chairman of the board of directors at Amman Ahliyya University, said the university has undergone a major shift by introducing new majors aligned with global educational, economic and technological changes.

Hourani said dozens of outdated majors were cancelled in the past five years since Covid, while new fields were introduced, including AI as a core subject across all programmes. He added the university is moving towards offering ‘technical’ master’s and PhD programmes to meet faculty demand.

He noted Ahliyya was among the first to establish a College of Technical Education in line with Crown Prince directives, earning Pearson BETC accreditation. Successful Tawjihi graduates with averages above 50% can obtain a diploma after two years, securing work opportunities in 163 countries, or continue for a bachelor’s degree in the UK or through bridging at Ahliyya.

Hourani thanked Prime Minister and Minister Muhannad Shatnawi for supporting educational tourism and welcoming international students, and the Minister of Higher Education for approving an increase in international student quotas to 50% of local intake. He stressed the positive impact on Jordan’s economy.

He also highlighted Ahliyya’s high standing in QS and Times rankings, underlining the importance of subject-specific classifications alongside overall ranking.
