Amman – Jordan Tourism Board on Sunday organised a specialised workshop on sustainable tourism in partnership with the Netherlands-based Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI), with wide participation from tour operators, hotels, restaurants, travel agencies and civil society institutions.

Deputy Director Wael Rousan opened the event, stressing the importance of adopting global best practices in destination management to enhance visitor experience through sustainable models. He said sustainability balances environmental, social and economic aspects, focusing on protecting natural and cultural resources, supporting local communities and boosting the national economy while reducing tourism’s negative impacts.

Rousan noted the board had earlier trained its staff with CBI support to highlight sustainability in promotional campaigns and itinerary design, while today’s programme targets the private sector to adopt internationally recognised standards applicable to the Jordanian market.

He expressed hope the workshop would strengthen Jordan’s competitiveness as a sustainable tourism destination.
