Amman – The first round of indirect talks between delegations from Hamas and Israel ended late Monday in Sharm El-Sheikh, aimed at setting mechanisms and details for implementing the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the two-year-long Gaza war, Al-Cairo News reported.

The talks focused on three main points: mechanisms for releasing Israeli detainees in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel; arrangements for a truce and gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza; and ensuring sufficient humanitarian aid flow to ease the suffering of Palestinians in the enclave.

Mediators held further discussions with the Hamas delegation, according to Al-Cairo News, which said the talks have so far taken place in a “positive atmosphere.”

Meetings between Egyptian and Qatari mediators and a Hamas delegation continue Tuesday in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel began Monday in Egypt to discuss mechanisms for prisoner exchange as part of Trump’s plan, which follows Hamas’s agreement to release all detainees in Gaza in return for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

About a week after announcing his Gaza plan, the US president has intensified pressure on negotiators.
