AMMAN – Jordan Kuwait Bank announced that its headquarters has received the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) green building certification from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), becoming the first bank in Jordan to achieve this recognition.
The certification highlights the bank’s leadership in sustainability and commitment to building a greener future. The announcement was made during a ceremony attended by the bank’s senior management, IFC representatives, and Ezzat Marji Group – Evergreen, the bank’s EDGE-accredited sustainability consultant. IFC Regional Director for the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan Aftab Ahmed officially presented the certificate.
EDGE, developed by IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is a global standard measuring savings in energy, water, and embodied energy in building materials.
Jordan Kuwait Bank’s headquarters achieved measurable reductions in energy use (26%) and water consumption (45%), while lowering embodied energy in construction materials.
CEO Haitham Al Batayneh said the certification “reflects our deep commitment to sustainability and our responsibility toward future generations,” adding that the building “embodies the bank’s core values of innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.”
IFC’s Aftab Ahmed praised the achievement, noting it aligns with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision and builds on IFC’s long-term partnership with the bank, including launching Jordan’s first green bond to finance water and wastewater projects.
Fadi Marji, Managing Director of Ezzat Marji Group – Evergreen, said the project “sets a national benchmark for environmentally responsible and economically viable buildings.”
The certification is permanent, positioning Jordan Kuwait Bank’s headquarters as a model for sustainable development and environmentally responsible banking in Jordan and the region.
