Amman – Middle East University announced its official withdrawal from the Times World and Regional University Rankings, citing a lack of clarity in the ranking’s methodology and indicator calculations, along with frequent changes that raised questions about transparency and fairness in evaluating academic performance.

University President Dr Salam Al-Mahadin stressed that MEU supports the development of global evaluation systems, provided they are based on transparency, balance, and diversity in standards. She clarified that the decision does not reflect a retreat from the university’s pursuit of academic and research excellence, but aligns with its vision to defend integrity and fairness in international ranking systems.

Dr Al-Mahadin noted that one key reason for the withdrawal was the introduction of a paid subscription system for participation in the sustainability ranking, which, she said, gave it a commercial nature inconsistent with the university’s values and mission, thereby undermining the objectivity of institutions’ sustainability assessments.
