Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that the transfer of Palestinian prisoners slated for release under the first phase of the Gaza agreement has begun.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, security prisoners are being moved from five prisons to designated release facilities.

The broadcaster said the deal covers 250 prisoners serving life sentences and 1,700 detainees from Gaza arrested after 7 October 2023, while Walla reported that the final list includes only 195 life-term prisoners.

Quoting informed sources, Walla said the Shin Bet objected to about 100 names and excluded 25 senior figures.

The report added that only 60 of the 195 released prisoners belong to Hamas.
