Citizens questioned the sudden price hikes at a well-known dessert shop in Amman long famed by its owners as the “home of hot kunafa and unmatched flavour,” after discovering what they described as “sky-high prices not matching the quality served.”

Customers said prices per kilo for some varieties have become unreasonable, while the quality of ingredients has declined, raising doubts over whether the increase is justified or simply capitalising on the shop’s old reputation and nostalgic taste.

What once was “kunafa that melted sugar in the mouth,” they said, “now melts the wallet before it melts,” as even its signature heat fails to disguise a bland taste and lower-quality content.

Many are now asking whether what’s served is worth the price—and whether the shop still deserves its once-golden fame built on the flavour of the past.

Calls have been made to consumer protection authorities and the Food and Drug Administration to examine the quality of ghee, pistachios, and other ingredients, along with hygiene and pricing standards—especially amid what’s seen as growing exploitation of people’s simplest pleasures.
