US President Donald Trump said hundreds of trucks carrying food and medicine will flow into Gaza, following the signing of a comprehensive ceasefire document in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
Trump described the agreement as "historic" and said, "Together we achieved what everyone said was impossible – peace in the Middle East." He confirmed that the Gaza war has ended and added that reconstruction “starts now, and this phase may be the toughest.”
He thanked King Abdullah II of Jordan, saying, "You helped us greatly, and we appreciate your role," and extended gratitude to Arab and Muslim leaders who contributed to the breakthrough, as well as Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for Egypt’s key role in reaching the Gaza agreement.
Trump stressed that Gaza’s reconstruction must occur in a demilitarised environment and underlined the goal of a safe and stable Middle East. He added that the day is historic with implications beyond the region, announcing plans to launch a Peace Council including leaders from around the world.
“This is a day to celebrate the end of the Gaza war and the promising new beginning for the Middle East. What we are doing is remarkable, a historic achievement that future generations will remember,” Trump concluded.
