Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemns Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Qudsi, and repeated extremist incursions under Israeli police protection, calling them a blatant violation of the legal and historical status of the holy site, desecration of its sanctity, and a serious, unacceptable provocation. The ministry stressed Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Ministry spokesperson Fouad Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s strong rejection of the extremist minister’s incursions and Israeli police facilitation, describing them as flagrant breaches of international and humanitarian law, and attempts to impose facts on the ground through spatial and temporal division of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Qudsi.

Majali warned of consequences of continued incursions by extremists and Israeli government hardliners, urging Israel, as the occupying power, to halt these violations and all provocative acts, which continue Israel’s racially motivated escalation and illegal unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank, violating sanctity of Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.

Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, covering 144 dunums, is exclusively a Muslim place of worship, and that the Jerusalem Endowments and Al-Aqsa Affairs Directorate, under Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, holds exclusive legal authority over its management and regulation of access.
