The Palestinian Prisoners Club warned that a new bill approved by the Knesset Security Committee allows execution of Palestinian prisoners, calling it a “flagrant violation of Geneva Conventions” and part of Israel’s ongoing “collective extermination” in Gaza and the West Bank.
Amjad Al-Najjar, Director-General of the club, said the law aims to legalize field executions previously carried out by Israeli forces, giving them official cover. He called on the international community, UN bodies, and human rights organizations to act immediately to stop the legislation and hold Israel accountable.
Israeli media reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu endorsed the bill, which now moves to the Knesset plenary for discussion and a vote, expected Wednesday. The law, repeatedly proposed in past years, stipulates the death penalty for anyone who deliberately or negligently causes the death of an Israeli citizen out of racial or ideological hatred.
The bill is linked to coalition agreements between Netanyahu’s Likud party and the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, led by Itamar Ben-Gvir. If passed through the three legislative readings, it will become part of Israel’s official legal code.
