A comparative study by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply showed that prices of 92% of 90 key food items declined or remained stable in October compared with September.
The study found prices of 30 items dropped, including slaughtered and fresh chicken, certain meat types, vegetables, and fruits, with decreases ranging from 2% for local veal to 32% for imported lemons. Prices of 53 items, such as sugar, rice, oils, and dairy products, remained stable.
Meanwhile, prices of 7 items rose, including table eggs and some vegetables, with increases between 4% and 12%.
Ministry spokesperson Yanal Barmawi said the ministry continuously monitors local price changes and their link to global markets, as Jordan imports a large share of its food needs. He noted that further declines are expected in the coming period, particularly in vegetables and fruits, due to local production, global price drops, and stable shipping costs.
Barmawi added that chicken prices saw a notable decrease compared with previous years.
