Security forces and the Ministry of Agriculture closed an unlicensed olive press in Irbid last night after discovering large quantities of adulterated olive oil mixed with vegetable oils and additives prepared for sale.
Irbid Agriculture Director Abdelhafiz Abu Arabi said ministry teams, under the supervision of the Minister of Agriculture and in cooperation with security and regulatory bodies, raided the mill and seized 100 tins of fake oil along with materials used in the fraud.
The mill was sealed with red wax for the third violation. Abu Arabi confirmed that penalties for olive oil fraud are strict and that inspection teams operate around the clock to ensure production quality.
He urged citizens to test oil at Ministry laboratories before purchasing, to buy only from trusted sources, and to avoid misleading ads promoting unrealistically low prices.
He emphasized that security and regulatory authorities remain vigilant against any attempt to tamper with essential food supplies, noting that the minister is closely following the season, which has seen lower production compared with previous years.
