The United States Central Command said Tuesday that Washington has struck more than 1,700 targets in Iran since the start of operations. According to the statement, the attacks, which began Saturday, targeted Iranian naval vessels, submarines, anti-ship missile sites, and command-and-control centers. Israel and the United States have been conducting airstrikes on Iran since Saturday. Reports indicate that the strikes resulted in the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has responded by launching missiles and drones at Israel and countries in the region. Iran has imposed a naval blockade on transit through the Strait of Hormuz and targeted oil tankers attempting to pass through it. On Sunday, Hezbollah launched several rockets from Lebanon toward northern Israel in response to Khamenei’s killing, drawing Lebanon into open conflict with Israel. Israel subsequently carried out heavy airstrikes on southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut. (Reuters)
