Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi emphasized on Monday Jordan's appreciation for Portugal's position supporting peace, stability, and the right of the Palestinian people to live in freedom and dignity within a sovereign state. He praised Portugal's decision to recognize the State of Palestine, describing it as a reflection of commitment to peace, security, and stability in the region. During a joint press conference with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel during a visit to Portugal, Al-Safadi said that the region is passing through major challenges and multiple crises. He stressed that joint action and commitment to the United Nations Charter and international law form the foundation for achieving security and stability for the peoples of the region. He pointed out that Jordan values Portuguese efforts, both directly and through the European Union, to support peace and stability, noting the importance of joint cooperation in facing regional challenges. Al-Safadi affirmed Jordan's commitment to developing relations with Portugal and building on the historical ties and friendship between the two countries, noting that there are wide opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, water, water treatment, defense industries, agriculture, education, and tourism. He added that both countries look forward to opening a direct airline route between Amman and Lisbon, as it represents a boost for economic and tourism relations, pointing to the agreement to hold the next round of political consultations as soon as possible and to host the Portuguese side in Amman. Al-Safadi explained that His Majesty King Abdullah II views relations with Portugal with great appreciation and sees significant potential for expanding cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing that the visit will give bilateral relations a new momentum and open additional areas for joint cooperation.
