Data showed that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed over the weekend following attacks targeting oil tankers, at a time when talks between the United States and Iran aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict stalled. Ship-tracking data from Kpler revealed that five commodity cargo vessels crossed the strait on Saturday, with no crossings recorded on Sunday, compared to 31 vessels during the previous weekend. Kpler data showed that the vessels entering the strait on Saturday included an empty Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) with its Automatic Identification System (AIS) switched off, as well as a large gas carrier flying the Indian flag that utilized the Iranian route. The data also indicated the exit of a small tanker loaded with Iranian fuel oil. Maritime shipping traffic appeared to come to a near-standstill after the UAE announced that three vessels operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) were attacked while transiting the strait last week.
