The clashes came a day after two civilians were killed in fighting between local armed groups and government forces west of Sweida city, according to two local security sources cited by AFP. Syrian state television said the number of wounded security personnel rose to 10 after outlawed groups targeted positions in the Tal Hadid area and the Walgha axis in the western Sweida countryside. State television had earlier put the toll at four wounded. Sweida city and other parts of the southern province remain under the control of local armed groups, the last areas still outside the control of Syria's new authorities, who have been working to extend their control over the entire country since ousting former president Bashar al-Assad in 2024.
