The Cabinet decided on Wednesday, during a session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, to approve the legislative grounds for a draft amended Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Law for 2026. The draft law comes as part of ongoing efforts to develop the national framework for combating financial crimes and enhance its efficiency, aligning with national interests as well as approved international best practices and standards. The draft law aims to keep pace with developments in international standards and practices in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and countering the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. This enhances the efficiency of relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks and adapts to changing natures and patterns of financial crimes. Additionally, the project aligns with the government's approach to consolidating the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the financial system by tackling organized and cross-border crimes, including terrorism and its financing, as well as financial crimes linked to corruption, drug trafficking, fraud, and tax evasion.
