Dr. Mamdouh Saleh Al-Abadi, former deputy prime minister of Jordan, said from Amman that the world is facing 'a new strategic position from Russian President Vladimir Putin,' one in which he is calling on the world's peoples and organizations to seriously reconsider American and Western dominance and work toward building a new, multipolar world order. Al-Abadi told Sputnik, commenting on Russian President Vladimir Putin's remarks at the Valdai International Discussion Club, that the Russian president's position aims to 'achieve balance amid the current existential conflict, and prevent a return to war, in everyone's interest.' Al-Abadi warned, in comments via Sputnik Radio, of 'the danger of more than one country today possessing nuclear weapons, and what that means for humanity's fate,' describing Putin's warnings as marking 'a turning point in human history.' He added that 'the absence of laws governing the world, and their interpretation according to narrow interests at the expense of the world's peoples, requires reconsidering them — particularly United Nations law — because Western dominance still holds the final say and stands in the way of achieving balance in the world.' Al-Abadi said 'the world's rising powers must seriously engage in breaking Western dominance and work to produce a new global order in which every country has its own standing and weight,' stressing 'the need for action at the level of heads of state, led by Putin, to forge a political position that helps build a new world that protects humanity from annihilation.' He said this step requires 'serious work by states to achieve long-term, shared global balance, in a way that serves common interests and contributes to achieving peace.' The Russian president's remarks came Thursday during the plenary session of the 23rd annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club. The Kremlin's press office had announced Wednesday that Putin would take part on October 1 in the plenary session of the forum's 23rd annual meeting, themed 'Responsibility for the Future: Limited Possibilities or Possibilities Without Limits?' The forum serves as a think tank and research hub bringing together Russian and international experts to discuss international policy and economic development issues. Image:
