Jordan achieved remarkable progress in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2026, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), reaching 60th globally out of 139 economies and 5th in the Arab world, continuing its upward performance trajectory. The Kingdom advanced five places in a single year compared to 65th in 2025, and 13 places over two years compared to 73rd in 2024. Its cumulative improvement reached 26 positions since 2019, when it was ranked 86th globally. By reaching 60th place, Jordan has surpassed the target set for the index under the Economic Modernization Vision—which aimed for 63rd globally by the end of its timeline in 2033—exceeding the target by three places and seven years ahead of schedule. Regionally, Jordan ranked 5th among Arab nations, behind the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Morocco. Jordan's advancement was not limited to its overall ranking; the Global Innovation Index 2026 report highlighted the Kingdom among the economies demonstrating the strongest sustained progress in the index since 2019, noting that Jordan joined the top 60 global economies through an increasingly knowledge-driven trajectory. Additionally, Jordan achieved 1st place globally in the scientific and technical articles indicator, while WIPO classified the Kingdom among economies performing above expectations relative to their level of economic development. This advancement comes amid growing national focus on strengthening the technology and innovation framework under the oversight of the National Council for Future Technology, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, which is expanding efforts to build an integrated ecosystem for emerging technologies, stimulate entrepreneurship, and foster private-sector partnerships. In this context, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship oversees Jordan’s performance in the GII, formulating and executing its dedicated improvement plan in coordination with relevant national partner entities in accordance with the Economic Modernization Vision. The Cabinet had previously approved the final version of the modified improvement plan for the Kingdom's index performance, circulating it to relevant institutions to execute required measures within their respective jurisdictions to enhance the national innovation environment and boost international competitiveness. The achievement represents the fruit of joint national efforts and role integration among government institutions, the private sector, universities, research and development centers, and key players across the innovation ecosystem, driving Jordan's transition toward a knowledge- and technology-based economy.
