Lebanese singer Fadel Chaker will perform a concert in Riyadh on October 22, marking his first live performance in nearly 14 years. The announcement comes approximately three months after the Lebanese judiciary released him following years of legal prosecution, according to Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority on Sunday. Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, posted on the X platform: 'Many asked about him, and many awaited his return... The great artist Fadel Chaker meets his audience in Riyadh after a long absence on the Abu Bakr Salem Stage as part of Riyadh Season concerts.' Chaker, 57, retired from singing in 2012. The Lebanese Military Court issued two in-absentia sentences against him in 2020. The first sentenced him to 15 years in prison with hard labor and stripped him of his civil rights after convicting him of 'complicity in criminal acts of terrorism committed by terrorists, knowing their intent, by providing them with logistical services.' The second sentenced him to seven years in prison with hard labor and imposed a fine for funding the Ahmed Al-Assir group, financing its members, and securing funds for weapons and ammunition. In July, the Lebanese judiciary released Chaker on bail, and the Military Court subsequently lifted the travel ban previously imposed on him. Chaker had remained in hiding for over a decade inside the Ain al-Hilweh camp, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. Since then, his appearances were limited to occasional media interviews and a few music releases. However, months before surrendering to authorities, he released new songs that achieved widespread popularity and accumulated hundreds of millions of views. Source: Rum News Agency
