Former English international striker Jesse Lingard will train for a month with Al-Ettifaq Club, according to what was announced by the fourth-ranking Saudi Football League in a statement on Friday.
The Eastern Club said, “The management of Al-Ettifaq Club, headed by Samer Al-Meshal, agreed to the Football Committee’s recommendation to accept the request of the English player Jesse Lingard to join the training of the first football team at Al-Ittifaq Club, for a period of one month.”
He added, 'Lingard's selection for the agreement comes because of his history and heritage, in addition to the stardom of the team's players and the professionalism of the administrative and technical work within the corridors of the club.'
Lingard (30 years old) is a free player, after the end of his contract with Nottingham Forest last July. He defended the colors of Manchester United between 2011 and 2022, and carried the colors of the England national team in 32 matches.
Lingard was training with his former team, West Ham, after his contract with Forest expired following a disappointing performance, as he did not score or pass any decisive ball in 17 matches in the English Premier League.
Lingard will join his compatriots, coach Steven Gerrard, and international midfielder Jordan Henderson in the agreement.
“Saudi Arabia is doing big things, and in the next two years it will be one of the top transfer destinations,” he told Sky Sports in June. He continued, 'Big names go there and I do not rule out this option.'
