Jordan's total imports of mobile devices reached 1,726 million devices, with an estimated value of 154.6 million dinars, during 2023.
The head of the Vision Association for Investors of Mobile Devices and Accessories, Ahmed Alloush, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that in 2023, 410,000 devices were imported in the first quarter worth 43 million dinars, 342,000 devices in the second quarter worth 32 million dinars, 524,000 devices in the third quarter worth 36.6 million dinars, and 450,000 devices in the last quarter worth 43 million dinars.
He pointed out that there is a significant decrease in imports compared to 2022, where the total import reached 174 million dinars, which means that there is a decrease of 19.4 million dinars in 2023, an approximate rate of 11.1 percent.
He attributed the decrease to the 16 percent tax on mobile devices, which directly affected the import volume and thus the prices of devices for the final consumer. Alloush called on the government to take measures to support the growth of the sector, especially in light of regional tensions that increase the need for proactive measures to protect economic sectors, including the mobile sector, while stressing the need to review tax policies.
