The number of workers in the tourism sector until the third quarter of last year reached 57,969 workers, including 50,458 males and 7,511 females, distributed over more than 3,341 establishments, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The data after analysis shows that males accounted for 87.043% of jobs compared to females, who had a share of 12.957%. Compared between the second and third quarters of last year, the growth rate of the number of employment in the tourism sector reached 1.412%, where it was until the second quarter 57,162 workers, including 49,868 males and 7,294 females, distributed over more than 3,300 establishments. The majority of the workers are distributed according to the data in the capital, Amman, where their number reached 42,893 male and female workers, which constitutes 73.993% of the total number of 57,969 workers. The tourist restaurants sector occupies the largest percentage of the number of employees, which reached 23,017, followed by the hotel sector, which reached 20,120 workers, while in the second quarter of last year, the hotel sector occupied the largest percentage of employment. Jordan’s tourism income grew during the past ten months of last year 2023 by 34.7% compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data of the Central Bank.
The data showed that during the ten months of last year, $ 6.4 billion was recorded, driven by the increase in the number of tourists, which reached 5.560 million tourists, a growth rate of 34%, and the increase in the number of overnight tourists to reach 4.656 million tourists, a growth rate of 31.8%, while the number of one-day tourists reached 903 thousand tourists, a growth rate of 47.4%.
According to the data, tourism spending abroad increased during the same period, by 30.9%, recording a value of $ 1.6 billion.
The data indicated that the tourism income for last October 2023 achieved a growth of 11.7%, compared to the same month of 2022, to reach $ 614.8 million.
Meanwhile, overseas tourism spending during the same period increased by 12.7 percent to $136.5 million.
