The Executive Office of the Asian Football Confederation chose Qatar to be the host of the 2023 Asian Cup after a competition with South Korea and Indonesia.
And a tweet from the Qatar Football Association stated: 'Officially, the State of Qatar has won the organization of the 2023 Asian Nations Cup.'
Qatar, which is expected to host the first World Cup finals in the Middle East, had previously hosted the Asian Cup in 1988, when Saudi Arabia won the title at the expense of South Korea on penalties, and 2011 when Japan won at the expense of Australia after the extension.
Last May, China apologized for organizing due to its policy to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, so Qatar, South Korea and Indonesia expressed their desire to host, while Australia decided not to proceed with its file in early September.
Qatar won the 2019 title from the tournament held every four years, while Japan holds the record for its titles (4) against Saudi Arabia and Iran (3).
