The world celebrates International Women’s Day, which falls on the eighth of March every year. The theme of International Women’s Day this year is “Investing in Women to Accelerate Progress”. When we look at the relationship between investment and progress on the one hand, and women on the other hand, we find that there is a strong and important relationship and importance for women as the basic building block for achieving progress and development and building society.
But what distinguishes International Women’s Day this year is that it comes in light of the tragic conditions that Palestinian women live in in the Gaza Strip, where the suffering of women there is embodied in all its manifestations for more than five months, as the brutal war imposed a bitter and painful reality on women and children in particular. And the question here is how do we talk about women’s rights to equality and freedom while the Palestinian woman in Gaza faces unprecedented humanitarian disasters and is subjected to painful violations every day, where she loses her life and the lives of her children and relatives and loses her home and education and work and land.
During the war on Gaza and according to the Ministry of Health in the sector, two women lost their lives every hour, while more than a million women and girls were forced to flee, and the number of martyrs exceeded eight thousand women and girls and more than three hundred women detained in prisons. And childbirth became a nightmare that women fear, as the minimum basic needs for these women are not available due to the destruction of hospitals and health facilities and according to statistics also more than five thousand women became the breadwinners for their families in very difficult circumstances due to the siege on the sector, where they struggle every minute to secure a livelihood for them and their families.
Despite all these harsh and painful conditions, the Palestinian woman in Gaza proved that she is strong and solid and defies the pain and suffering. We must salute the women who stand firm in the face of injustice in all parts of the world and stand in solidarity and solidarity for the sake of granting these women their basic rights in order to live a safe life with dignity and justice. And here it is necessary to point out that the Jordanian woman supports her Palestinian sister with all that she has and feels the magnitude of the tragedy that she faces and the Jordanian woman tries to provide all possible assistance to alleviate the woes of this fierce attack that our sisters in Palestine are exposed to.
