The Public Prosecution began the procedures for implementing the General Amnesty Law No. 5 of 2024, which was issued by Royal Decree and became effective as of the date of its publication in the Official Gazette No. 5919, today, Tuesday. The Chief Public Prosecutor, Judge Yousef Al-Dhiabat, said that he issued directives to the public prosecutors in the three regions of the Kingdom, the north, center, and south, to begin preparing lists of people covered by this law and release them immediately, in implementation of the royal directives ordered by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
He added that the procedures for the release of those included in Amnesty Law No. 5 will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, after completing and revising all their schedules, and the process will be very fast thanks to the automation process that the public prosecution departments have reached in the Kingdom. He pointed out that public prosecutors will cooperate with public prosecutors throughout the Kingdom to identify the people included in the articles of the General Amnesty Law and initiate the process of informing and releasing them. The Royal Decree was issued today, Tuesday, in accordance with Article 31 of the Constitution and based on what the Senate and House of Representatives decided to ratify General Amnesty Law No. 5 of 2024 and add it to the laws of the Jordanian state. The law included 7 articles, and the Prime Minister and the ministers will implement its provisions. The second article of the law stipulates the exemption of all criminal and misdemeanor crimes, violations, and criminal acts that occurred before the 19th of the current month of March, so that the criminality is removed from its foundations, and every criminal case and penalty, whether original or subsidiary, related to it is dropped. any of these crimes. The second paragraph of Article 2 of the law stipulates that cases covered by the provisions of this law are exempted from the fines and fees imposed in their entirety or those that will be imposed in criminal and misdemeanor crimes, violations, or in any penal procedures.
