In a statement issued today, the Amman Future Dialogues Group called for respecting the Jordanian Constitution, which stipulates that Islam is the official state religion. This text represents a general directive to state institutions to respect the provisions of Islam, which is one of the sources of legislation, as stipulated in the Jordanian Constitution as well. This directive was changed by the Ministry of the Interior, in clear violation of its recent amendments to the instructions for selling alcohol in the Kingdom. Instead of the Ministry seeking to dry up the sources of crime in Jordan by restricting stores that sell alcohol, the consumption of which constitutes a major reason for the spread of crimes, it went to the exact opposite when It allowed the sale of alcohol at all hours of the day, and canceled its ban after 12 p.m. It also allowed the promotion of alcohol on the social media pages of stores that sell it!
The group said in its statement: The decision of the Ministry of the Interior, whether you know it or not, came in line with suspicious calls to change the identity and traditions of Jordanian society, which denounces alcohol and gambling, even among those who give them, and who consider them an affliction from which they hope to be cured. Not to mention the Jordanian religion and their laws, which forbid them, as well as the call to open casinos and allow gambling...etc.
The group said in its statement that the suspicious calls to change the identity of Jordanian society are hidden behind various masks, such as encouraging tourism and supporting the economy. These calls forget that “the free woman goes hungry and does not eat from her breast.” They also forget that gambling and brothel tourism did not protect the economies of the countries that adopted it, but rather was one of the reasons for this. Its collapse, and before all that, we forget the enormous tourism potential that Jordan possesses, far from casino and bar tourism. We have Petra, Rum, Aqaba, Mount Arbitration, and Jerash Yarmouk, and we have the Dead Sea, and medical tourism.
The Amman Group for Future Dialogues concluded its statement by calling on the scholars of true Sharia not to be obtrusive in their religion and the identity of their country, and called on the Jordanians to pay attention to their cultural, social and civilizational identity, and that they are in a state ruled by the Household who revealed the prohibition of alcohol and gambling to their grandfather Muhammad, may the best prayers and peace be upon him.
