As part of its sustainability initiatives and practices, Zain Jordan remains committed to increasing green areas, supporting Jordanian farmers, and reducing carbon emissions to mitigate the effects of climate change. The company has continued its expansion in planting fruit-bearing trees across various regions and governorates in the Kingdom.
In collaboration with the Arab Society for the Protection of Nature and the “Nahno” platform, an initiative by the Crown Prince Foundation, Zain planted 500 almond trees in the land of a farmer in the Safa area of Jerash Governorate as part of the Green Caravan project. This brings the total number of planted trees, both fruit-bearing and forest trees, through Zain’s initiatives in different regions and governorates of the Kingdom to 16,550 trees. Additionally, the company has supported a total of 32 Jordanian farmers.
This step aligns with Zain’s ongoing efforts to assist less fortunate Jordanian farmers who own agricultural land but lack the financial means to continue cultivation. By ensuring sustainable income and enabling economic empowerment, Zain aims to improve their livelihoods and restore their productive capacities. Furthermore, the company encourages young people to engage in volunteer work, fostering values of giving back and social solidarity.
Zain adheres to specific criteria when selecting fruit-bearing and forest tree species for planting, considering the prevailing environmental conditions in the Kingdom. Factors such as soil type, water requirements, and local agricultural conditions guide their choices. Through these initiatives, Zain maximizes the benefit to both society and the environment.
The company places significant emphasis on environmental protection and addressing the consequences of climate change. Zain has installed drip irrigation networks covering a length of 12,800 meters across three farms in the Ghawr Fifa area of the southern Jordan Valley in Al-Karak Governorate. This contributes to ecosystem preservation and water security by promoting awareness about improved irrigation practices. Additionally, Zain signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture to support national afforestation plans and agricultural guidance in the Kingdom. Since 2008, Zain has also maintained the “Zain Forest” in the Thaghrat Asefur area of Jerash Governorate, which boasts over 8,500 trees
