The UN Security Council, affiliated with the United Nations, will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, following an Israeli airstrike that resulted in martyrs at a camp for Palestinian displaced persons, according to diplomatic sources on Monday.
Several diplomatic sources clarified that the closed meeting will be held at the request of Algeria, a non-permanent member of the Council.
Dozens of Palestinians, mostly children and women, were martyred and injured on Sunday evening in a new massacre committed by the Israeli occupation forces after they bombed the tents of displaced persons northwest of Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian sources reported the martyrdom of at least 40 Palestinians and the injury of others due to the targeting of the occupation’s aircraft of the tents of displaced persons in a newly established displacement camp near the warehouses of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) northwest of Rafah. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that its teams transferred a large number of martyrs and injuries following the occupation’s targeting of the displaced persons’ tents in Rafah.
