The United States has announced emergency humanitarian aid worth $315 million for Sudan, warning of the possibility of a major famine in this country torn by internal military conflict.
The aid includes food supplies, drinking water, and medical materials for emergencies at a time when estimates indicate that five million Sudanese are suffering from severe hunger, with a food shortage in neighboring countries to which more than two million Sudanese have fled.
Yesterday, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield told reporters, “We want the world to wake up to the catastrophe that is happening before our eyes. We have seen staggering predictions of deaths due to hunger or due to military operations between the parties to the conflict.” –(Petra)
