The Women’s Health Center at Amman Al-Ahliyah University’s Nursing Faculty, in collaboration with the Hearing and Speech Center under the direction of Dr. Fadi Al-Sayouti, organized a series of field visits to several senior care homes. The aim was to provide comprehensive and innovative healthcare services to the elderly and conduct necessary examinations to detect age-related health issues.
The visits included the following senior care facilities: the Darrat Shama Elderly Association in Shafa Badran, the Wadi Al-Shita Elderly Center in Al-Bayader, and the Guesthouse for the Elderly in Al-Juweida.
Students from the Nursing Faculty, particularly Saudi students affiliated with the Saudi Cultural Attaché, participated in this initiative as part of a cooperation agreement between the Women's Health Center and the Attaché. Master's students in the Hearing and Speech program from the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences and the Hearing and Speech Center also contributed by conducting examinations using the latest advanced equipment, which is considered among the most accurate and modern in the region.
The examinations focused on assessing hearing and speech abilities in the elderly, with particular attention to cases requiring additional follow-up. Elderly individuals needing further care were referred to the Hearing and Speech Center at Amman Al-Ahliyah University, with coordination between the care homes and the center to ensure the best treatment services.
Under the direction of Dr. Mona Al-Nasour, the Women’s Health Center trained a group of Nursing students to administer the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination for evaluating cognitive conditions in the elderly, aimed at measuring cognitive abilities and detecting potential cognitive decline. Pharmacist Haneen Al-Momani played a key role in training students on the scientific and accurate preparation of the test.
The test was successfully implemented during the visits, helping identify the health and psychological needs of the elderly participants. At the conclusion of the visits, the representative from the Ministry of Social Development, Ms. Sherine Al-Momani, expressed her deep appreciation to Amman Al-Ahliyah University, represented by the Women's Health Center and the Hearing and Speech Center, for the excellent coordination and organization of such community health initiatives. She emphasized that these efforts effectively contribute to improving the quality of life for the elderly, promoting social solidarity, and serve as a model for collaboration between academic and community institutions to provide quality services that meet the diverse needs of society.
