The Russian authorities said that the crime was criminal, while local media revealed that the man had died after an argument with someone who tried to sneak into his apartment in central Moscow.
Butikov has been identified as the man who was discovered strangled to death in his home on Rugova Street on March 2, Newsweek reported.
The Russian virologist was found dead on Thursday morning, according to the same sources.
And Butikov, one of the 18 scientists who developed the Sputnik vaccine that was offered to Russian citizens during the Corona epidemic.
The Russian Investigative Committee (ICR) opened an investigation to find out the circumstances of the crime, while the local press said that a 29-year-old man strangled the scientist with a belt during a dispute between them before fleeing.
