A third panel at the Minor Criminal Court sentenced a surveyor at a major municipality near Irbid to five years in prison with temporary hard labour, along with dismissal from his job, fines, and legal fees.
The panel, headed by Judge Dr Marzouq Al-Amoush and Judge Fadi Musleh, with Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Atef Al-Khawaldeh present, found that the defendant, responsible for issuing building permits, had forged documents in a licensing transaction.
The case was uncovered when a citizen (or her daughter) approached the licensing department to renew a building permit. A staff member noticed discrepancies in the application number and licensed area.
Her suspicions led her to compare the documents with the actual property, revealing a forged financial receipt and a mismatch in area: the licensed area was listed as 60 square metres, while the actual area was 100. The paid fees were also significantly lower than required.
The staff member reported the matter to the mayor, and legal action was taken immediately.
