Amman– Marking the anniversary of the end of the Iran-Iraq war in August 1988, Raghad Saddam Hussein, daughter of the late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, shared reflections on the conflict’s legacy and Iraq’s resilience on social media.
In a tweet posted on her X account, she said:
“On this day in 1988, Iraq scripted an epic victory over the Iranian aggression, where the courage of its people and the bravery of its army foiled the expansionist plans of the Iranian regime aimed at swallowing our country and the entire region. After the occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Iranian ambitions returned with a new project to divide the unity of Iraqis.”
She further stressed the importance of national unity and collective will as key to Iraq’s future success:
“The Iraq that triumphed then through the unity of its people is the same Iraq capable of rising again today, if sincere wills unite, rise above narrow interests, and steer the compass toward building a state of justice and dignity, putting Iraq’s interests and its people’s service above all else, away from the hateful quota system.”
Raghad concluded by expressing hope and faith in Iraq’s path forward:
“There is no salvation except through Iraqi unity, and with our collective will and firm determination, we will lead our Iraq to safety… We have full confidence in God that what lies ahead will be victory, consolation, and good for our great homeland and people.”
