US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says Washington working to designate Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organisation, calling process legally complex. Speaking on ‘Sid and Friends in the Morning,’ Rubio responded to question on why authorities have yet to designate the Brotherhood and the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) as terrorist entities, especially given their support for Democratic New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, whom he called ‘deranged’ and ‘crazy.’
Rubio said move ‘in the works,’ noting Brotherhood’s various branches must be classified individually. He added he had not fully understood the procedural requirements before joining the administration, which include gathering evidence and preparing documentation to withstand legal challenges.
‘We constantly review groups to classify them for what they truly are: supporters of terrorists, perhaps terrorists themselves, or whatever it may be,’ Rubio said. ‘We haven’t done that in a long time, so there’s a lot of catching up to do. The Muslim Brotherhood, in particular, is of grave concern.’
