Jordan Food and Drug Administration decided to withdraw ‘Gel Color’ nail polish, known as UV gel or hybrid nail polish, after detecting the banned substance TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide). The move follows EU Regulation No. 877/2025, which prohibits use of the chemical from 1 September 2025 due to health risks.
In a statement Tuesday, JFDA said it banned circulation of the product, halted imports, suspended registration of new products containing TPO, and stopped receiving new registration requests for similar cosmetics.
Inspection teams have begun tracking products containing the substance and coordinating with distributors to withdraw them from the market.
The decision was circulated to all concerned authorities as part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety of products in the local market and monitor international health regulations and alerts.
