Latifa Daroubi, wife of Syrian President Ahmad Shar’a, donated $5,000 to the Development Fund launched Thursday during a conference at Damascus Citadel.
Donations to the fund have so far reached around $60 million, with the official platform experiencing heavy traffic due to strong public response.
President Shar’a stressed that Syria is entering a new phase of reconstruction, noting achievements would not have been possible without the sacrifices of the Syrian people. He added the fund was not meant as charity, saying Syria and its people are too dignified to be treated as recipients of alms.
