European Investment Bank vice president Gelsomina Vigliotti said Jordan is a strategic priority for the bank and EU, with investments exceeding $3.5bn since 1979 in infrastructure and banking.
In an interview with Al Mamlaka TV, Vigliotti stressed support for the Aqaba–Amman National Water Carrier and desalination project as a key investment to cut water loss and boost efficiency. She also highlighted the ‘Greening the Financial System in Jordan’ programme with the Central Bank to strengthen resilience against climate risks and back sustainable growth.
She noted cooperation has accelerated, with nearly €2bn invested since 2019, over €1bn in private-sector loans since 2017, and guarantees covering €200m worth of SME projects.
Vigliotti said her presence in Jordan reflects its importance to the bank and the strength of EIB-backed ventures in the country.
