Iraqi PM Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Sunday called for formation of an ‘Islamic military alliance’ to confront Israel, coinciding with expectations of activating the ‘Arab NATO’ proposed by Egypt about 10 years ago, set to be announced at the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha Sunday and Monday.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Sudani described the Israeli strike on Qatar as a shocking violation of international law, calling it an assault on a sister state and a threat to regional security. He urged creation of joint political, security and economic alliance among Islamic states, including a collective security force for defence.
Sudani stressed Arab and Islamic states hold many leverage tools to confront Israel’s aggression, which he said will not stop at Qatar, adding Israel has shown disregard for everything and pursued systematic killings in Gaza for over two years.
