Dutch ambassador to Jordan Stella Kloth visits Al Nafoura Mall in Aqaba during her first official tour since assuming duties, to review the mall’s pioneering experience in applying green building standards.

Kloth is briefed on the results of the Netherlands-supported ‘Green Buildings in Jordan’ project, which led to a partnership granting Al Nafoura Mall the international EDGE certification for resource-efficient sustainable buildings.

She praises the mall as a leading model in promoting green building concepts in Aqaba, expressing satisfaction with the cooperation between Jordan and the Netherlands in advancing such initiatives.

The ambassador and her delegation are received by Jordan Duty Free Shops CEO Haitham Al-Majali, board member of Al-Aswaq Al-Oula Company Mukhaymar Abu Jamous, and the mall management, who presented an overview of the mall’s sustainability practices.

During the tour, Kloth examines the energy and water conservation systems and green design standards that enhanced operational efficiency and environmental practices within the mall, positioning it as a successful model for sustainable commercial buildings.

Dutch embassy economic and trade officer Hamza Sabbagh commends the mall’s management for its cooperation, stressing the importance of supporting projects that promote innovation and sustainability in Jordan.

The visit is part of the Dutch embassy’s efforts to back initiatives that strengthen sustainable and efficient infrastructure development in the Kingdom.

Al Nafoura Mall, owned by Jordan Duty Free Shops, previously received the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certificate, becoming the first commercial complex in Jordan and the first building in Aqaba to earn this global recognition for green construction.

The EDGE certificate, awarded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group, is one of the leading global standards for buildings that save energy, water, and materials, reducing environmental impact and advancing sustainability in construction and urban development.

The certification crowns Jordan Duty Free Shops’ commitment to applying sustainable design best practices and developing environmentally responsible projects that support national green growth goals and reinforce Aqaba’s position as a modern, eco-friendly economic and tourism hub.
