King Abdullah II receives European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at Al Husseiniya Palace on Thursday, with Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II present, to hold first bilateral summit between Jordan and European Union.
Summit focuses on strengthening political and economic cooperation under strategic and comprehensive partnership signed last year, while reviewing key regional and international developments.
Partnership covers 5 main pillars: political relations and regional cooperation, security and defence, economic resilience trade and investment, human capital, migration protection and refugee support.
Framework based on financial and investment package for 2025–2027 worth about €3 billion, including €640 million in grants, €1 billion in concessional loans as macro-financial assistance, and nearly €1.4 billion in additional investments.
European Council President Antonio Costa says holding first EU–Jordan summit in Amman marks pivotal milestone in bilateral relations and reflects strength of partnership. Writing on X, Costa says summit comes one year after launch of strategic partnership, now translating into tangible results, as both sides review achievements and push toward deeper cooperation.
Partnership also aims to support Jordan stability amid exceptional geopolitical challenges, advance political economic administrative modernisation, and enhance economic resilience.
Strategic partnership builds on long-standing relationship rooted in Association Agreement since 2002 and Jordan–EU Partnership Priorities 2021–2027. Last Association Council meeting held on 15 July 2024. King met Costa in Brussels on 29 January 2025, and again on 21 September 2025 on sidelines of UN General Assembly in New York.
